New Post (94) : The “other” Bharat-Natyam.
1. Bharata Natyam, which originates from the state of Tamil Nadu in South India, is one of the “7” popular classical dance styles in India.
A popular interpretation of the name of the style is:
BHAva (expression) + RAga (musical mode) + TAla (rhythm) NATYAM (dance) = BHARATA NATYAM
The highly cultivated art of Bharata Natyam has been handed down over the centuries by teachers called nattuvanars and ritualistic dancers called devadasis, in the temples of south India.
Besides the devadasis the court traditions also carried on the traditions of dance. The Tanjore Quartette being the most well known. They were court artists under a Maratha Ruler of Tanjore. (The Marathas ruled between the period 1674-1885 AD). They are responsible for the present day repertoire of Bharata Natyam. They composed and directed many dance items and to this day their contributions are held in high esteem and are performed in present day dance recitals. The format remains the same with a few changes here and there.
This style is a direct descendant of devotional dances performed in the temples of South India from the tenth century to the present times.
Besides the school of Bharata Natyam associated with the state of Tamil Nadu, …there is a Mysore school of Bharata Natyam which retains the traditions of temples and courts of the ancient Mysore state of Karnataka state.
2. *** An ancient name of India is Bharat.
The “other” post-15thAug1947 i.e. post-independence, “BHARAT-NATYAM” …is the one that---Indian politicos have been making the hapless gullible ignorant general Indian populace dance to.
With scams, scams and MORE scams…each one bigger than the previous one.

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson…
(born 18 July 1944) is a British industrialist, best known for his Virgin Group of over 400 companies.
Global entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson has built a business empire and made billions, --- yet is renowned for his approachability & for his ability to challenge and succeed against the odds.
In his book---“Screw It, Let's Do It …” he reveals the lessons from life that have helped him through his business and personal life - such as…
-believe it can be done
-if others disagree with you, try and try again until you achieve your goal
-that you must love what you do.
These and other lessons, with examples of how he learned them and how he's used them, are included in this stirring and candid look at his lessons from an truly exceptional life.
*** Inspiration that one can draw upon---“to make a difference in your own life”.
In my personal experience with his unique and awesome Virgin Group…
The one operative word that best describes his personal philosophy is IRREVERENCE”. (an idea that I have applied in the past to “advertising”.)
This permeates all of his life---businesses, adventures and charities...
PS: Also, read his autobiography “Losing My Virginity”. You will enjoy reading this one too. In his words the book is all about ---“How I've Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way”.
SRCNB---A maverick multi-faceted determined pioneer if there ever was one.
He is one of a kind.

Merry Christmas from Ded Moroz & Snegurochka in Veliky Ustyug
New Post (91) : Merry Christmas from Ded Moroz & Snegurochka in Veliky Ustyug
In Russia---The traditional character Ded Moroz plays a role similar to that of Santa Claus.
Santa Claus***[Santa Claus is a folklore figure in various cultures who distributes gifts to children, normally on Christmas Eve. The name is a variation of Saint Nicholas, but refers to Santa Claus...]
The literal translation of the name Ded Moroz would be Grandfather Frost, although the name is often translated as Father Frost.
Ded Moroz brings presents to children. However, unlike the secretive ways of Santa Claus, he often brings them in person, at the celebrations.
The "in-person" gifts usually occur at organized celebrations at kindergartens, schools, circus performances around New Year time where the gifts may be "standardized."
Various agencies provide Ded Moroz visits to families and offices. In such cases specific gifts can be chosen for particular members at the parties. The clandestine operations of placing the gifts under the New Year tree still occur when a Ded Moroz visit is not arranged for some reason.
Ded Moroz is commonly accompanied by Snegurochka, or The Snow Maiden, a character in Russian fairy tales. In one story, she is the daughter of Spring and Frost, who yearns for the companionship of mortal humans.
Snegurochka, or 'Snow Maiden,' is his granddaughter. She is a unique attribute of the image of Father Frost – none of his foreign counterparts has a similar companion.
The traditional appearance of Ded Moroz has a resemblance to that of Santa Claus, with his coat, boots and long white beard. Specifically, Ded Moroz wears a heel-long fur coat
The official residence of Ded Moroz in Russia is the town of Veliky Ustyug.
IN RUSSIA CHRISTMAS IS CELEBRATED ON THE 7thJANUARY.
Footnote:
The Slavic Peoples are an ethnic and linguistic branch of Indo-European peoples, living mainly in central and eastern Europe. From the early 6th century they spread to inhabit most of the Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Many settled later in Siberia and Central Asia.

My friends from Nippon [Nihon] just love---Manga and Anime.
New Post (90) : My friends from Nippon [Nihon] just love---Manga and Anime.
Manga and Anime are national obsessions in Japan…and that’s not an over statement.
"Manga” are Japanese “comics”, and “anime” is the Japanese version of “animation”.
Anime is usually, but not always, the animated version of popular manga."
In Japan "anime" technically means any animated film, and "manga" is any printed cartoon. But people in the rest of the world take them to mean animated films or comics …from Japan.
Japan has been making cartoonish art for a very long time. It’s embedded in their culture.
Some aspects of manga are taken from the West. Osamu Tezuka, the "father" of modern manga, was influenced by Disney and Max Fleisher, …but its main features, such as ---simple lines and stylized features---, are distinctly Japanese.
It may be that Chinese art had more influence than Western.
Anime is now a general Asian phenomenon, not just Japanese. There are many fine works of manga and anime being produced in many places around the world. However, the roots are in Japan, and Japan is still considered, at least in the US, the center of the anime world.
The point/s:
-I believe that with the twin rise of (non traditional) digital era web based marketing …and… the wide adoption of social media---manga and anime artists/creators will be in extra hot demand ! (…going forward)…
-As a technique---Manga will appeal to the "un-hurried" consumer and Anime' will appeal to those consumers with "short-er attention spans".

Creative abruption is alive and well !
New Post (89) : Creative abruption is alive and well !
The (new) Sony Bravia ad spot is ---positively “abruptive”.
*** It’s also “single-minded”. You can read that as “pointedly focused”.
The Brief: “Color like no other”---Bravia LCD TVs offer unparalleled viewing
experiences !
In the ad spot…(all you SEE is)...an entire council block suddenly explodes into gigantic spurts of bright multi-colored paint. (((Choreographed suitably to Rossini's Thieving Magpie.)))
The film is about color …(period)…as you've never seen it.
Here the abruption is certainly “relevant”.
Heartening for any ad agency to have a client being bold enough to back---a creatively abruptive “idea”.
Talk about betting BIG on a BIG idea.

Resolutions for 2011.
New Post (88) : Resolutions for 2011.
What are your relationship resolutions for the New Year?
An important question to reflect upon as we approach 2011,
and (in fact) …at any time.
The intention to improve your relationships is a critical pre-requisite to having your partnerships grow.
Like they say---“IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME”.
